AKHNATEN Philip Glass Opera by Philip Glass in three acts (with prologue and epilogue) Libretto by Philip Glass, Shalom Goldman, Robert Israel, Richard Riddell Premiered at the Württembergisches Staatstheater in Stuttgart on March 24, 1984 New production Akhenaton was one of the most prominent pharaohs of ancient Egypt. He succeeds in imposing one of the first monotheisms in history, making Ra, the sun god, the one and only divinity of his kingdom. When the American composer Philip Glass decides to devote several operas to great figures of history, Akhenaton is obvious to him. After Einstein on the Beach (1976) and Satyagraha (1980), Aknathen brilliantly brings this trilogy to a close. Using texts from the time, including a poem by Akhenaton himself, the work covers his reign as brilliant as it is original from his accession to the throne after the death of his father Amenophis III, until his fall. Akhnaten conceals some key moments of minimalist music, such as the brilliant coronation scene! Bringing together all the vital forces of our institution, Choir, Ballet and Orchestra, this book is an opportunity to start the season under the best auspices. For the musical direction, Léo Warynski, one of the great specialists of the music of our time, and for the direction and the choreography, Lucinda Childs, faithful from the first hour of Philip Glass: she already danced during the creation from Einstein on the Beach!,
