Alcina loves to seduce men and, as soon as she has grown tired of them, to transform them into plants, animals or stones - with Ruggiero everything is different: for the first time she truly loves. But love makes you vulnerable, and when Ruggiero's fiancée and the magician Melisso infiltrate Alcina's world, the very existence of their entire realm is suddenly at stake. Handel effectively explores the feelings of his protagonists and ignites a virtuoso fireworks display of baroque melodies in the spirit of Ariosto's verse epic “Orlando furioso” (“The raging Roland”).
