Cohere 1, by Trevor New, is a piece written for decentralized simultaneous telematic performance. It features a soloist and orchestra, 3 quartets in separate locations, each with an audience and 6 international soloists from around the world. They will be playing together in real time, seeing, listening, and reacting to one another. The core of this piece is about discovering connections to the world around us in unexpected places and seeing how they fit together, it’s about deepening that feeling of connection with people near and far, being able to feel like they’re right next to you. This piece plays with sounds of greetings, time and space, and the digital networks that connect to all of us, this is what they sound like.

Cohere 1 by Trevor New

The American Composers Orchestra premieres music by hundreds of today’s top composers, and no two concerts are alike. In this program, they offer a wide-ranging musical testament to humanity’s bold endeavors. Works include a multimedia rendering of a famed (and ultimately doomed) expedition to the North Pole, written by Nina C. Young; a world premiere by composer and jazz pianist Guillermo Klein; a world premiere by George Lewis, one of the leading exponents of experimental music today; an Augusta Read Thomas composition originally written to precede Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony; and a world premiere by Jack Hughes.
