By presenting the work to the public at their Vendée Festival in the summer of 2019, Les Arts Florissants immediately felt the powerful charm of this little Handelian gem. Although Aminta e Fillide  is very rarely performed, one is immediately struck by the feeling of familiarity that emerges from it . In reality, nothing surprising about this: in this youthful pastoral cantata dating from his first stay in Rome (1708), Handel indeed drew the material many years later from several of his masterpieces - certain arias. among the most famous of Agrippina ,  Rinaldo  or Ode à Sainte Cécile  are literally taken from the score!

It is also to say the astonishing variety of some 40 arias which punctuate this cantata which was first composed for the Marquis Ruspoli and the Academy of Arcadians - a group of scholars united under the patronage of Queen Christina of Sweden and who loved to meet in the heat of the Roman summer in the idyllic gardens of the marquis. Almost an hour long, there are recounted in a very sober style, the amorous assaults of the shepherd Aminte, which the reluctance of the nymph Phyllis stands in the way - but the constancy and fidelity of Aminte will eventually melt the heart of the beautiful.
