Opera in concert version - Marin Marais' first “solo” musical tragedy.
Known as a performer and author of pieces for the viola da gamba, Marin Marais was also an opera musician and even conductor of the orchestra for several years. He composed four lyrical tragedies, one of which, Ariadne and Bacchus, has yet to be rediscovered. Libretto rich in contrasting characters and situations, dense and dramatic score, colorful orchestration: it is unquestionably one of the centerpieces of the second half of the reign of Louis XIV, whose revival is due to the Center de Musique Baroque de Versailles.

Libretto by Saint-Jean, inspired by the tragedy "Ariane" by Thomas Corneille and the heroic comedy by Jean Donneau de Visé "Les Amours" or "Le Mariage de Bacchus et d'Ariane".
