The Odyssean Ensemble presents the three masses written by the great English composer William Byrd for private and sometimes secret domestic performances during the Renaissance period.

Almost exactly 400 years after Byrd’s death, the stunning Chapel of London’s most historic landmark provides the setting for a performance which highlights the composer’s struggle as a Catholic during the religious storms of the Reformation, when many persecuted Catholics were imprisoned at the Tower of London.

The music will be juxtaposed with prose and poetry highlighting more recent examples of persecution of and by religious groups, such as women in Afghanistan.
