The orchestra does not sit in the stage pit, but on the stage, the singers and actors act on platforms in front of and behind the musicians. In some places they are even integrated into the scene. Right at the beginning, two actors in tails appear who prepare to conduct the orchestra before the actual conductor takes her place. Candide is in capital letterson a screen behind the orchestra. The writing disappears after the overture, and a new stage design appears on the screen, changing from scene to scene, which is supplemented by a variable rope construction to form a three-dimensional backdrop. First you see a simple house, later a burnt village or the sea. The ropes function, among other things, as a boat, gallows or abstract forms, which are then also found on the canvas. The choristers are disguised as harlequins, Voltaire leads the story and morphs into Pangloss, Cacambo and Martin in front of the audience's eyes. All minor speaking roles will be performed by Daniel Drewes and Jan Viethen(actors) who give each role a different face with language, gestures and facial expressions.
