It would be necessary to start the story of  Carmen  from the fact that it is the most frequently staged opera in the world, and its author Georges Bizet has remained the author of one masterpiece in the history of opera. In the 135 years since its premiere at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, no opera has appeared that  can match the number of productions by G. Bizet  Carmen . It wasn’t a sudden glory,  Carmen’s  performance was accompanied by a scandal rather than a success. However, its popularity, which came after Bizet's death, is not fading today. Bizet had plans for about 30 opera sketches. But without  Carmen , only four of them were completed and built while he was alive. But one Carmen alone would be enough for Bizet's fame to spread to this day.

Each country has its own perception of a woman. Spaniards like strong women - and character, and Carmen’s party is always a challenge for the singer. She is fatal, hedonistic, living only in the present moment. Carmen is ready to give up all of herself, fully aware of the power of such an action, but she will demand exactly the same from the person she surrenders to. "A free, independent host of all her desires," Carmen radiates a destructive, wild passion and inexplicably enticing force. Probably the most charismatic character in the opera. Jose, captivated by Carmen's misfortunes, loses everything - his whole world of morals, moral, calm, virtuous, collapses. He imagines his love will be able to keep it, maybe even redeem it… Unfortunately. 

French-Spanish temperament, an intriguing story about a Spanish gypsy who chose death in the name of freedom and love, but above all wonderful, well-known music in everyday form - in Lithuania, as all over the world, this opera has always been and is a favorite of the public. Carmen always comes back - every time she is re-embodied, she is essentially the same - intriguing, inspiring, hopeful and admirable. Carmen's story is the most vibrant cultural myth of our century about the mysterious nature of women.
