CARMEN de Bizet / opéra / bande-annonce / juin 2019

Does the Opera Carmen owe its success to a huge stroke of luck? "Love is a rebellious bird that no one can tame, love is a child of Bohemia, it has never known a law ..." It's a few words, it is Georges Bizet who writes them at the end of the XIXth century without imagining that they will resonate in the ears of millions of people around the world and the decades to be still to this day, the most famous of the most performed opera on the planet every year. Video shot in 2017 in Bougival in the Parisian suburbs, in the house where Georges Bizet lived during the composition of Carmen where he lost his life. It was at the invitation of baritone Jorge Chaminé who himself took on the role of the famous Toreador alongside one of Carmen's greatest interpreters, Teresa Berganza, that we have chosen to focus on Bizet and its greatest success. With this video we are committed alongside Jorge Chaminé in a fight to save the house of Georges Bizet which, put up for sale by owners who have always taken care to preserve its soul and its bedroom, could have fallen back in uninitiated hands who might have unwittingly destroyed this residue forever. With the Dartagnans platform, more than one million euros were collected thanks to the support of the town hall of Bougival who heard the appeal of Jorge Chaminé, but also many donors. This money will allow, in addition to saving the house, to launch in the coming years the construction of a European Music Center which will welcome artists, researchers, enthusiasts

Bizet (Carmen) - Révisons Nos Classiques

Bizet's ultimate opera remains one of the most famous and performed works of the lyric repertoire. The fate of Carmen, a woman with many faces claiming and assuming her freedom, is still striking with her daring and theatricality. A dramaturgical dimension that Paul-Emile Fourny very skillfully exploits.
By transposing the work into the universe of a detective series and the world of theater, the director offers it a new modernity, pushing the characters into the most obscure entrenchments of their psyche. From the prelude, he reminds us that there is murderous madness followed by crime. In a psychiatrist's office, a patient, in a straitjacket, is accompanied by a nurse. Two bodies, in front of a theater where a company is staging Bizet's opera, are the subject of forensic surveys. Thus, Don José puts on the raincoat of a police inspector and we are transported to the post-war years.
This mise en abyme, which also looks towards Shutter Island, a novel by Dennis Lehane, allows us to question the humanity of the characters by relieving them of folklore and clichés often associated with myth. An effective approach that delivers a fascinating reading of this great classic of the French repertoire.
