Listen to the French mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine with Carmen´s Habanera of "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" from Georges Bizet's CARMEN: it is only the presentation aria with which Carmen introduces herself to the audience in Georges Bizet's opera of the same name. But at the same time this Habanera unites everything that has been written and thought about this female figure, that has been connected with her and projected into her: Sensuality and the art of seduction as well as the idea of a free love that eludes bourgeois conventions, the image of the enticing and at the same time destructive femme fatale as well as the idea of a self-determined femininity emancipated from male domination, eroticism as a play full of relish and at the same time dangerous, with the highest commitment.
