In 1937, the composer Carl Orff set selected texts from "Carmina Burana", a collection of songs and poems from around 1300, to music. The documents found in Benediktbeuern were written in the late Middle Ages by students, traveling journeymen and clerics, who expressed their joie de vivre in a folksy and sometimes quite coarse tone. Incidentally, the name of the "Carmina Burana" gives an indication of the place where it was found - "Burana" means "Benediktbeuern". In addition to satirical poems, these records contain songs about drinking, celebrating and loving. Orff has implemented this text perfectly in his music and the music reflects the joie de vivre and vitality of the medieval original: a musical experience that captivates the listener with the first chords of the famous "O Fortuna"!
