In 1937, the cantata Carmina Burana had its world premiere , whose fascinating effect ensured its undying popularity and hundreds of recordings by the world's best orchestras and choirs. Its floor plan consists of 25 poems from the 13th century, mostly in Latin and Old German, which Carl Orff reinterpreted in the spirit of the captivating drama of modern vocal symphonic music.

In the same year, the no less remarkable cantata Kytice was created, which, of course, is not related to Erben's collection of ballads, but rather reflects five Czech and Moravian folk texts, which he completes in a cycle that has no parallel in Czech musical literature. Bohuslav Martinů's extremely attractive and accessible music reflects elements of Czech folk music, thereby becoming a certain counterweight to Orff's cantata, which uses a similar method to process elements of medieval music.

Roku 1937 měla světovou premiéru kantáta Carmina Burana, jejíž fascinační efekt jí zajistil nehynoucí popularitu a stovky nahrávek těch nejlepších světových orchestrů a sborů. Její půdorys tvoří 25 básní ze 13. století, povětšinou v latině a staroněmčině, jež Carl Orff reinterpretoval v duchu strhujícího dramatismu moderní vokálně symfonické hudby.

Téhož roku vznikla neméně pozoruhodná kantáta Kytice, jež ovšem nijak nesouvisí s Erbenovou sbírkou balad, nýbrž reflektuje pět českých a moravských lidových textů, které uzavírá do cyklu, jež nemá v české hudební literatuře obdoby. Poslechově nesmírně atraktivní a přístupná hudba Bohuslava Martinů zrcadlí prvky lidové české hudby, čímž se stává určitou protiváhou Orffovy kantáty, která podobnou metodou zpracovává prvky hudby středověké.
