Synopsis The main action revolves around the passions of Céfalo and Procris, that Calderón takes from Book VII of Ovid's Metamorphoses: reciprocated and ideal love in the face of the destructive role of jealousy constitutes the central theme, put into parody by the comic characters that demystify the world of the masters, as in so many others comedies of the time. As there is a multiplicity of plots around the main action, the unity of action is not respected, although that of time and place is. Mythology is the epic and allegorical basis of the story, and in it three layers intermingle -gods, heroes and villains- located in two spaces -the celestial and the terrestrial-, also reduced to that comedy of shepherds and villains -the characters. by Clarín, Rústico and Floreta-. Calderón thus shows how the nobles can ascend to the superior world of the gods, but not the rustic characters. On the other hand, nature with its four elements is always present in this tragicomedy.
