It is symbolic that Britten was born on November 22 - the day of St. Cecilia, the patroness of music and musicians. His music, as if overshadowed by this high patronage, fascinates with its beauty. For all its technical complexity, with the composer's virtuosity, it is the beauty and some kind of magical simplicity of his music that affects the listener the most. With these qualities of Britten's music, the high themes of his compositions are surprisingly combined. The concert will feature two Canticles, "Abraham and Isaac" and "It's Still Raining" (subtitled "1940 Bombing, Night and Dawn", written to a text by Edith Sitwell, which links the Passion of the Christ to the horrors of the German air raids) .


Another vocal composition in the concert program owes its birth to the most important friendly and creative attachment of the last decade of Britten's life - his contact with Mstislav Rostropovich and Galina Vishnevskaya. For them - the singer and pianist-accompanist - the vocal cycle "Echo of the Poet" was composed to the verses of A. Pushkin - probably the only case when Russian poems were set to music by a composer who did not know the Russian language (but who, of course, had wonderful advisers !). For M. Rostropovich, the Sonata for cello and piano was also written (the first of a total of five compositions created by Britten for the great cellist), which will also be performed in the concert. And finally, there is one more instrumental composition in the program - full of amazing, fabulous beauty Suite for harp solo.


All performers of this unusual concert are artists of the State Opera and Ballet Theatre: Tamara Glagoleva (soprano), Natalia Akinina (mezzo-soprano), Yuri Gorodetsky (tenor), Pavel Kuzyukovich (horn), Alexei Afanasiev (cello), Ekaterina Zhuravleva (harp) . Piano part - Dmitry Zubov (St. Petersburg).

Символично, что Бриттен родился 22 ноября – в день Св. Цецилии, покровительницы музыки и музыкантов. Музыка его, словно осененная этим высоким покровительством, завораживает своей красотой. При всей своей технической сложности, при виртуозном мастерстве композитора, именно красота и какая-то волшебная простота его музыки воздействует на слушателя более всего. С этими качествами бриттеновской музыки удивительно сочетаются и высокие темы его сочинений. В концерте прозвучат два Кантикля – «Авраам и Исаак» и «Все еще падает дождь» (это произведение, имеющее подзаголовок «Бомбежка 1940 года, ночь и рассвет», написан на текст Эдит Ситуэлл, в котором Страсти Христовы связываются с ужасами немецких авианалетов).


Еще одно вокальное сочинение в программе концерта обязано своим рождением важнейшей дружеской и творческой привязанности последнего десятилетия жизни Бриттена – его контакта с Мстиславом Ростроповичем и Галиной Вишневской. Для них – певицы и пианиста-аккомпаниатора – был сочинен вокальный цикл «Эхо поэта» на стихи А. Пушкина - наверное, единственный случай, когда русские стихи были положены на музыку композитором, не знавшим русского языка (но имевшим, конечно же, замечательных советчиков!). Для М. Ростроповича была написана и Соната для виолончели и фортепиано (первое из в общей сложности пяти сочинений, созданных Бриттеном для великого виолончелиста ), которая также прозвучит в концерте. И наконец, еще одно инструментальное сочинение в программе – полная удивительной, сказочной красоты Сюита для арфы соло.


Все исполнители этого необычного концерта – артисты Государственного Театра оперы и балета: Тамара Глаголева (сопрано), Наталья Акинина (меццо-сопрано), Юрий Городецкий (тенор), Павел Кузюкович (валторна), Алексей Афанасьев ( виолончель ), Екатерина Журавлева ( арфа ). Партия фортепиано – Дмитрий Зубов (Санкт-Петербург).
