The Cleveland Orchestra returns to Miami for Mahler & Debussy, presented by The Cleveland Orchestra in partnership with the Adrienne Arsht Center. The concert is led by NWS Co-Founder and Artistic Director Laureate Michael Tilson Thomas and includes New World Symphony Fellows performing side by side with Cleveland Orchestra musicians. Mahler wrote, “A symphony should be like the world, it should embrace everything,” and his first symphony is just that. From its opening whispers of dawn and birdsong to its grand and glorious finale, Mahler’s symphony is turbulent, passionate, triumphant … and simply exhilarating. New World Symphony and The Cleveland Orchestra unite for this monumental piece, as well as Berlioz’s Overture to Benvenuto Cellini. In between, rising pianist George Li joins Cleveland for Debussy’s intoxicating Fantaisie.
