About the work

hristoph Willibald Gluck was the new star in the Parisian opera sky. For his patron, Marie Antoinette, Queen of France alone, he composed five operas and arranged three earlier works for the stage. Famous dances from "Orphée et Eurydice" and sensitive, virtuoso soprano arias from his "Iphigenie" operas can be heard in the Thuringian Symphony Orchestra's second palace concert. On the evening of the Ancien Regime, this mythological heroine, who is more of a noble plaything than an actor in the struggle for power, was particularly en vogue. "Madame, dear daughter" also had to struggle with constant excessive demands and enormous pressure of expectation. This becomes clear in Marie Antoinette's correspondence with her mother, Empress Maria Theresia, from which two actresses read excerpts
