Né, comme notre soliste Martha Argerich, en Argentine, le tango s’est répandu sur toute la planète en devenant une des musiques les plus populaires. Cela n’a pas échappé à Stravinski qui en composa un dès son arrivée aux États-Unis. Créé en 1941 par Benny Goodman, le Tango de Stravinski, on s’en doute, ne suit pas vraiment la tradition, mais prend au contraire des chemins de traverse dans une atmosphère créée de toutes pièces. Le néoclassicisme mis à la mode par Stravinski semble être parvenu jusqu’aux oreilles du jeune Chostakovitch lorsqu’il composa son Concerto pour piano No 1 auquel il adjoint une trompette solo malicieusement parodique. Le ton persifleur et l’humour débridé de Chostakovitch règnent en maître sur ce concerto devenu au fil des ans une de ses œuvres les plus jouées. « Modèle immortel et idéal de la symphonie » pour Mendelssohn, l’ultime Symphonie No 41 de Mozart, intitulée Jupiter par un imprésario anglais qui avait le sens de la formule, étonne toujours par la perfection de son écriture. Sa portée poétique, son dynamisme, sa science du contrepoint en font tout simplement un des plus grands monuments de la musique occidentale.

Born, like our soloist Martha Argerich, in Argentina, the tango has spread all over the planet, becoming one of the most popular forms of music. This did not escape Stravinsky, who composed one as soon as he arrived in the United States. Created in 1941 by Benny Goodman, Stravinsky's Tango, one suspects, does not really follow tradition, but on the contrary takes side roads in an atmosphere created from scratch. The neoclassicism made fashionable by Stravinsky seems to have reached the ears of the young Shostakovich when he composed his Piano Concerto No. 1 to which he added a maliciously parodic solo trumpet. Shostakovich’s mocking tone and unbridled humor reign supreme over this concerto, which over the years has become one of his most performed works. "Immortal and ideal model of the symphony" for Mendelssohn, Mozart's last Symphony No. 41, entitled Jupiterby an English impresario who had a sense of the formula, always amazes with the perfection of its writing. His poetic scope, his dynamism, his knowledge of counterpoint quite simply make him one of the greatest monuments of Western music.
