OperaStaged
Richard Wagner's (scary) romantic opera THE FLYING DUTCHMAN, written in 1841 and premiered in Dresden in 1843 – a so-called ghost opera in terms of genre – allows reality and myth, human beings and the world of spirits to collide. In terms of content, it is characterized by the longing for peace and stability in the turmoil of life and by Wagner's recurring theme, redemption through love in death. With great arias, somber ballads, rousing ensembles and striking choirs, Wagner condenses the constantly escalating events into a gripping musical drama with rich timbres.
