Der Graf von Monte Christo

The world premiere of The Count of Monte Cristo took place on 14 March 2009 at the Theater St. Gallen in Switzerland. This is one of the great musicals of Frank Wildhorn - a world-famous composer, author of numerous hits and a Grammy Award winner. The libretto of the project was written based on the novel of the same name by A. Dumas by the constant co-author of the composer Jack Murphy. And when creating the musical image of the main character, the composer was guided by the brilliant German actor Thomas Borchert, who played the role of Edmond Dantes / Count of Monte Cristo at the Swiss premiere of the musical.

According to the plot, the young sailor Edmond Dantes, on the day of his engagement with his beloved Mercedes, finds himself behind bars due to a false denunciation of his former friends. He spends fourteen years in cruel confinement on an island in the Chateau d'If. Having miraculously found himself free, the young man takes on a new name, becoming the Count of Monte Cristo, and decides to take revenge on the offenders... 

The Russian version of The Count of Monte Cristo was staged by Miklos Gabor Kereni (KERO), a longtime partner of the Musical Comedy Theatre. His play "Jekyll and Hyde" based on the debut musical by F. Wildhorn has been on the playbill of the Musical Comedy Theater for the fourth season, collecting constant full houses.

Especially for the Russian production, the composer, who visited St. Petersburg with a solo concert in May 2017 at the invitation of the theater, wrote additional musical numbers. And the libretto of the musical was significantly revised by the author of the Russian text, Susanna Tsiryuk, in accordance with the additions made. Exclusively for the St. Petersburg production, the Hungarian production team created exquisite stage structures full of sea romance and inviting on an exciting journey. And costume designer Olga Shaishmelashvili drew more than two hundred sketches, in which corsets and camisoles of the Restoration period are seen through the eyes of a man of the 21st century.

Мировая премьера «Графа Монте-Кристо» состоялась 14 марта 2009 года в Театре Санкт-Галлен в Швейцарии. Это один из прекрасных мюзиклов Фрэнка Уайлдхорна – композитора с мировым именем, автора многочисленных хитов и обладателя премии Грэмми. Либретто проекта написано по мотивам одноименного романа А. Дюма постоянным соавтором композитора Джеком Мёрфи. А при создании музыкального образа главного героя композитор ориентировался на блестящего немецкого актера Томаса Борхерта, который и исполнил роль Эдмона Дантеса/графа Монте-Кристо на швейцарской премьере мюзикла.

По сюжету юный моряк Эдмон Дантес в день помолвки со своей возлюбленной Мерседес оказывается за решеткой по ложному доносу своих бывших друзей. Он проводит в жестоком заточении на острове в замке Иф четырнадцать лет. Чудесным образом оказавшись на свободе, молодой человек берет себе новое имя, став графом Монте-Кристо, и решает отомстить обидчикам... 

Постановку российской версии «Графа Монте-Кристо» осуществил Миклош Габор Кереньи (KERO) – многолетний партнер Театра музыкальной комедии. Его спектакль «Джекилл и Хайд» по дебютному мюзиклу Ф. Уайлдхорна не сходит с афиши Театра музкомедии уже четвертый сезон, собирая неизменные аншлаги.

Специально для российской постановки композитор, по приглашению театра посетивший Санкт-Петербург с сольным концертом в мае 2017 года, написал дополнительные музыкальные номера. А либретто мюзикла было значительно переработано автором русского текста – Сусанной Цирюк в соответствии с внесенными дополнениями. Эксклюзивно для петербургской постановки венгерская постановочная бригада создала  изысканные, полные морской романтики и зовущие в увлекательное путешествие сценические конструкции. А художник по костюмам Ольга Шаишмелашвили  нарисовала более двухсот эскизов, на которых корсеты и камзолы периода Реставрации увидены глазами человека XXI века.
