Créé à la Boarding School de Londres en 1687 Les Nouveaux Caractères bénéficient du soutien du Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication - DRAC Rhône-Alpes, du Conseil Régional de Rhône-Alpes et de la Ville de Lyon.

La Fondation Orange et la Fondation Bettencourt Schueller sont les principaux mécènes de l’ensemble Aedes, qui bénéficie également du soutien du Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication - Directions Régionales des Affaires Culturelles de Bourgogne et de Picardie, de Mécénat Musical Société Générale, de la Fondation Safran pour la musique, des Conseil Régionaux de Bourgogne et de Picardie, des Conseils Généraux de l’Oise et de l’Yonne, de la Ville d’Auxerre, de Musique Nouvelle en Liberté (MNL), et de l’aide ponctuelle du Fonds pour la Création Musicale (FCM) et de la SPEDIDAM. L’ensemble est en résidence à la Fondation Singer - Polignac, au Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne ainsi qu’au Théâtre d’Auxerre. Il est également Lauréat 2009 du Prix Bettencourt pour le chant choral décerné par l’Académie des Beaux-Arts.

Pour son premier opéra en langue anglaise, Purcell rend hommage à Lully avec une ouverture à la française. Exploration des amours impossibles, Didon et Enée brille par sa concision et son unité dans une extrême diversité d’atmosphères et de sentiments. La richesse de la musique ajustée à la prosodie de la langue anglaise font de cette partition un chef-d’œuvre absolu. La reine Didon sera campée par Isabelle Druet lauréate du prix « révélation artiste lyrique » aux Victoires de la Musique 2010.

For his first English-language opera, Purcell pays homage to Lully with a French overture. An exploration of impossible loves, Dido and Aeneas shines with its conciseness and unity in an extreme diversity of atmospheres and feelings. The richness of the music adjusted to the prosody of the English language makes this score an absolute masterpiece. Queen Dido will be portrayed by Isabelle Druet, winner of the "lyrical artist revelation" prize at the Victoires de la Musique 2010.
