The bat (in German Die Fledermaus) is an operetta in three acts by Johann Strauss-son with a libretto by Karl Haffner and Richard Genée, based on the short story "Le Reveillon" by Henri Melhac and Ludovic Halévy. The premiere took place in Vienna, at the "Theater an der Wien", on April 5, 1874. In Romania, the first performance of "The Bat" took place on March 20, 1891, at the National Theater in Bucharest, under the artistic direction of George Stephanescu. Since then, it has been represented by the main opera and operetta companies in Romania. The action takes place on the last day of 1870 and New Year's Eve 1870-1871, in the Austrian castle Weinberg.

Liliacul (în germană Die Fledermaus) este o operetă în trei acte de Johann Strauss-fiul cu libretul realizat de Karl Haffner și Richard Genée, după nuvela „Le Reveillon” de Henri Melhac și Ludovic Halévy. Premiera a avut loc la Viena, la „Theater an der Wien“, pe data de 5 aprilie 1874. În România, prima reprezentație a ”Liliacului” a avut loc pe 20 martie 1891, la Teatrul Național din București, sub conducerea artistică a lui George Stephănescu. De atunci, a fost reprezentată de principalele companii de operă și operetă din România. Acțiunea se petrece în ultima zi a anului 1870 și în noaptea de revelion 1870-1871, în castelul austriac Weinberg.
