Dürrenmatt's drama - his craziest and darkest - is about the fact that the earth is a precious place worth protecting. The combination of market and power has become a machine of all-destruction; resistance is impossible and yet remains the greatest longing. It tells of a “rundown madhouse” in which three former physicists live as patients. But everyone is just faking their madness: one, Möbius, because he is in possession of the world formula and is afraid that the powers of the earth could misuse it. The other two, because they are actually secret agents, hired by the very powerful people on Earth to target Möbius in order to abuse his discovery.
