It's about a pair of siblings who have lost each other and find each other again. It is about incestuous love, adultery and infidelities. It's about power and intrigue. But it is also about love, trust and the search for happiness. And it's about a ring that means the future of the world. Richard Wagner's Die Walküre begins like a simple love triangle in which two people fall in love with each other and a third suffers as a result. But in the course of the opera, the deeper dimension of this entanglement becomes apparent and the perspective expands beyond the purely human. It is nothing less than a part of the world-spanning epic Der Ring des Nibelungen, which Richard Wagner created with Die Walküre.

The First Day of the Stage Festival is one of Wagner's most popular operas and from the very beginning fascinated opera-goers who were not open to all of the composer's achievements. The reason for this is the combination of Wagner's musical innovations such as large declamatory passages with proven stylistic elements from the older number operas. This is how the "Ride of the Valkyries", for example, has become one of the most internationally famous pieces of music ever.
