They are celebrating their thirtieth anniversary this year and are bringing a lovely gift: Les Talens Lyriques, under the direction of their conductor Christophe Rousset, are presenting Mozart's timeless masterpiece The Magic Flute .

Halfway between a children's tale and an initiatory story with Masonic references, between the learned and the popular, the serious and the comic, The Magic Flutespans the centuries with its universal messages and humanist values. The opera includes the most famous arias of the repertoire such as that of the Queen of the Night or the birdcatcher Papageno. Composed in the last months of his life for a theater on the outskirts of Vienna and intended for a more popular audience, Mozart's opera celebrates the triumph of light and knowledge over darkness and ignorance. Tamino, rescued from a snake by the three Ladies of the Night, is given the mission to save Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night, held prisoner by Sarastro. Accompanied by his comic double Papageno, the young prince Tamino then begins a long initiatory journey during which he will have to show wisdom, patience and courage to find his beloved and triumph with her over the last trials.

Although he is not one of Berlioz's absolute references, Mozart nevertheless remains a composer whom he appreciates and conducts regularly during his tours – the Marriage of Figaro in London, the Ave verum corpus in Moscow or even the opening of The Magic Flute in Baden-Baden. Berlioz first knew the Parisian adaptation of The Magic Flute presented under the title Les Mystères d'Isis ("a miserable pot-pourri" according to him), before discovering the original score years later and finally being able to " taste its charm and suave perfection”.
