For his short but very intense life, which began as a "miracle child", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791) wrote more than 700 works. There is no field of musical art in which he does not create works of the highest value and lasting significance. PI Tchaikovsky writes about him: "Mozart is the highest culmination point, which has reached the beauty of music."
Mozart is the author of 22 operas, 50 symphonies, 7 concertos for violin and orchestra, 23 concertos for piano and orchestra, sonatas for violin, piano and organ, quartets, quintets, 70 vocal-symphonic works, cantatas, oratorios, masses, one Requiem and others. One of the most attractive images for artists from all fields of art is Don Juan. He became the hero of a huge number of works of art - operas, ballets, operettas, dramas, comedies, novels, poems, paintings, sculptures, symphonies and more. For the first time, the legend of the tireless adventurer and conqueror of women's hearts finds a place as the plot of a stage work in the play "The Seducer of Seville" (1630) by Spanish playwright Tirso de Molina. After him writers, including Moliere, Goldoni, Hoffman, Byron, Merimee and Pushkin, composers like Gluck, Dargomizhsky and Richard Strauss created works on the same plot. One of the most significant of them remains Mozart's opera.

In January 1787, Mozart went with his wife to Prague on holiday with his friend and great admirer Count Thun. There, the director of the Prague Bondini Theater offered the composer to write an opera for a fee of one hundred ducats. Mozart accepted the offer and turned to the court librettist Lorenzo da Ponte. The poet quickly composed the libretto and in May this year the composer began work on the music of "Don Juan". Legends are told about the speed with which this opera was completed. One of them is that Mozart wrote the wonderful overture on the day of the premiere - on September 29, 1787 in Prague. The show was an incredible success. The following year the opera was presented in Vienna, and for the Austrian production Mozart made some corrections to the score.

The opera "Don Juan" is one of the peaks in the creative achievements of the genius composer. This musical-scenic work is a rarely successful combination of dramatic and comic opera. The author himself calls it a "jocosa drama" (cheerful drama). The dramatic construction of the work shows Mozart's unique sense of stage action.
At the same time, all musical numbers are the highest perfection of the musical form. The images are bright, embossed and vivid, sculpted with unique mastery.
And the overture of "Don Juan" is one of the largest and most significant Mozart overtures. By its nature, it is associated with the musical images of the opera. This overture is one of Mozart's most frequently performed orchestral works.
