Norina, a young widow, erratic nature, unable to endure contradiction, but sincere and soulful.« This is how Gaetano Donizetti characterizes the main characters of his masterpiece »Don Pasquale« from 1843: A timeless story, bel canto at its peak, sparkling lightness and a gripping orchestra. Has that already said everything? In keeping with the tradition of the Commedia dell'Arte, an old man who wants to marry a young woman is duped using every trick in the book. The only question is: Why does the inveterate bachelor Don Pasquale suddenly want to get married? The answer to this question is now staged with a wink by a director who has not only shown in »The Love for Three Oranges« and »Cinderella« that she can do comedy: Cordula Däuper has been a guarantee for brilliant opera fun in Mannheim for years – and for the whole family.
