An elderly gentleman, quirky, wealthy and ready for one last lustful love, plus a young couple who are in need of money on the way to love happiness, and a doctor friend who has the perfect intrigue ready to meet the individual wishes in a triangular configuration to let go in the air. The four figures seem fresh from the Commedia dell'arte and yet they stand there as human beings: vulnerable, vulnerable and full of irreconcilable longings. If the rich old man wants the beautiful young woman, but the beautiful young woman prefers the charming young man - but somehow the money too ... yes, then we are in the middle of the irresistible pull of an opera buffa that celebrates laughter beyond the limits of pain. Don Pasquale, ein älterer, wohlhabender Mann mit dem Wunsch nach einer jungen bescheidenen Ehefrau, trifft in Donizettis Oper auf das junge Paar Ernesto und Norina. Zum großartigen Liebesglück der beiden fehlt nur noch der Geldsegen. Der befreundete Arzt Malatesta entwickelt einen schlauen Plan, sodass am Ende die perfekte Intrige entsteht und Don Pasquale zum Spielball der jungen Leute wird.
