I am staging Don Pasquale for the third time in my creative biography, but now I am making a completely new reading, different from my previous productions, very different from the prevailing idea of ​​this image.
Gaetano Donizetti's music, although written 250 years ago, is so vivid that it challenges me to relate it to modern man, and this creative task has proved very tempting. I have the action not in the XIX century, but in the XXI century and today the story is revived in all its details. At the same time, all the characters derived from comedy del arte and opera bufo are recognized. There is no lack of Pantalone, Doctor, Columbine, Harlequin, we even have a notary, but they are all expressed by modern artistic means.

The whole musical score is illustrated in the stage action. All 14 musical numbers are designed to tempt with their gushing ideas for stage incarnation. I start from this grateful premise in order to bring the artists to a higher level of interpretation and technology, which relies, along with singing skills, on serious theatrical play and the possibility of improvisation.  

The soloists of talented singers - Deyan Vachkov, Evgeniy Stanimirov, Geo Chobanov (Don Pasquale), Plamen Dimitrov and Svilen Nikolov (Dr. Malatesta), Ernesto (Arseniy Arsov, Georgi Sultanov), Ilina Mihailova and Irina Zhekova (Norina) - are really stellar. and they all do a brilliant job of challenging creative tasks. Both the soloists and the choristers are full-blooded participants in the performance, constantly exchanging roles. From creators of action in one moment, they turn out to be spectators of action in some next moment, and in this constant confrontation and dynamic overflow of one into the other, conditions for artistic competition arise.

Obviously, we have found a common key to this setting, which requires high reflexivity and concentration, but it is precisely because of this that it implies great satisfaction. Our desire is to present our "Don Pasquale" in such a way that the audience also has fun and perceives it in the best possible way.
