Don Pasquale
Von Donizettis Spätwerken hat sich nur Don Pasquale sogleich einen festen Platz im Repertoire erobern können. Der grosse Erfolg der 1843 in Paris uraufgeführten Oper liegt in der bewährten Situationskomik der Opera buffa begründet. Ein Genre, das Donizetti mit seiner brillant instrumentierten Partitur zu später Blüte führte.
Don Pasquale hat sich auf seine alten Tage entschlossen zu heiraten und will dadurch seinen Neffen Ernesto enterben, um ihn zugleich von der Liebe zur mittellosen Witwe Norina abzubringen. Der gewiefte Doktor Malatesta hat mit seiner Schwester Sofronita anscheinend genau die richtige Frau für Don Pasquale gefunden und arrangiert die Hochzeit. Doch kaum haben die beiden den Ehevertrag unterschrieben, macht Sofronita Don Pasquale das Leben zur Hölle und droht ihn in den Ruin zu treiben. Schliesslich fliegt die komödiantische Intrige auf: Sofronita entpuppt sich als Norina, Don Pasquale zeigt sich einsichtig und gibt den beiden jungen Liebenden seinen Segen.
Als Ernesto präsentiert unsere Wiederaufnahme mit Javier Camarena einen der profiliertesten Belcanto-Tenöre unserer Tage. Publikumsliebling Carlos Chausson singt die Titelpartie, und die in unserem Rigoletto als Gilda gefeierte Aleksandra Kurzak übernimmt die Partie der Norina.

As Ernesto, our revival with Javier Camarena presents one of the most distinguished bel canto tenors of our time. Audience favorite Carlos Chausson sings the title role, and Aleksandra Kurzak, celebrated as Gilda in our Rigoletto , takes on the role of Norina.
