Touching this work is akin to the discovery of Atlantis. For more than three hundred and fifty years, an unusual, phenomenal phenomenon called the “baroque zarzuela” has been hiding in the depths of European opera culture. Today we know the zarzuela as a naive and light folk genre of "song theater with dialogues", a kind of Spanish version of the Parisian and Viennese operetta. But the genre of zarzuela, which arose in the 17th century at the court of the Spanish kings, is an art of a completely different, highest kind. Undoubtedly based on the discoveries of the Italian creators of "drama per musica", the experiences of the composers Emilio de Cavalieri, Jacopo Peri and Claudio Monteverdi, the Spanish zarzuela opera is to the same extent a child of the great Spanish baroque theater, the theater of Lope de Vega, Miguel de Cervantes, Lope de Rueda, and, of course, Pedro Calderón de la Barca himself. Having absorbed the rhythm and energy of Spanish dance music and the sublimity of Catholic chants, based on ancient myths in the refraction of the Spanish consciousness of “duty and honor”, ​​the baroque zarzuela is so unlike the baroque operas of G.F. Handel and V. Vivaldi, is full of such power and magic that one can only regret that its development was interrupted so early and so suddenly - along with the tradition of the entire great Spanish theater.

Today, like archaeologists carefully clearing ancient sculptures, we have the good fortune to restore and re-see and hear this unique work.

For several years now, the theater has been cooperating with one of the best authentic musicians in Europe, baroque harpist Andrew Lawrence-King. It was with him that the theater created one of its most famous performances based on the first opera in the history of mankind, “The Game of Soul and Body” by Emilio de Cavalieri. This performance won the recognition of the audience, colleagues, and received the Golden Mask National Theater Award from the hands of the outstanding conductor Eri Klas. It is thanks to the enthusiasm and encyclopedic knowledge of Andrew Laurence King that the Natalia Sats Children's Musical Theater is turning to the opera Love Kills today.
