Sterling Elliott is young, but he has already been making a name for himself—he was the winner of the Senior Division of the 2019 National Sphinx Competition and a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient. He will join Marcelo and YOUR orchestra to perform Elgar’s iconic Cello Concerto, made famous by the historic performances by Jacqueline du Pré. Written in the aftermath of the First World War, it reflects Elgar’s grief and sense of loss through its memorable melodies and lush harmonies.

We are thrilled to bring Art Battle to the DeVos Hall stage during this concert. Art Battle is a time-limited live art competition. Artists create works on canvas and audience vote determines winners and progression through the global tournament. We bring 2 artists onstage each night who will create during our performance of Mighty River. All art created during the night will be available for purchase silent auction.
