Enthusiastic about the strongly pictorial language of the Old Testament, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy succeeded in creating a lively, realistic representation of the zealous and opinionated prophet in his oratorio Elias . It is therefore not without good reason that the work is regarded as his failed opera. The unusual dimension of the dramatic aspect and the juxtaposition with viewing elements broke the notion of an oratorio at the time. Soloists from the music theater ensemble, the opera choir of the Volkstheater and the Rostock Singing Academy will sing at the Rostock performance under the direction of Frank Flade. The Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock makes music.
