Er schrieb für US-Filme »Ohrwürmer« am Fließband. Das hört man auch in ›Émigré‹: An ›Romeo und Julia‹ gemahnend, erzählt das Oratorium von der Liebe zweier Menschen Ende der 1930er-Jahre im Exil in Shanghai, wo Tausende Jüdinnen und Juden Zuflucht fanden – ein triumphales, lebensbejahendes Werk. He has composed many catchy tunes for US movies; typically, his soundscapes have a highly dramatic intensity. You can hear that in ›Émigré‹ as well, a romantic love story during a tragic chapter in human history. Reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet, ›Émigré‹ tells of the love between two people in the late 1930s. 18,000 Jews fled Europe, and Shanghai provided refuge for them.
