Adapted from Sarah Ruhl’s brilliant play, “Eurydice,” the opera tells the story of a young bride tragically killed on her wedding day who descends into the underworld, where she reconnects with her adoring father. Presented with the opportunity to return to her husband in the world of the living, she must choose between the two men she loves.
This modern take on one of the oldest stories is composed by LA Opera Artist in Residence, Matthew Aucoin, and staged by director, Mary Zimmerman. The creative team, comprised entirely of “geniuses” as all three are recipients of the prestigious MacArthur Genius award, delivers a thrilling, whimsical and heartbreaking opera experience that audiences won’t want to miss.
