Tom and Sir Mark will tell the story of Edward Elgar, a composer who had a very impressive moustache and lived in the English countryside with his wife, Alice. Elgar wrote a musical theme based on his own personality ‘the Enigma’ and then developed Enigma Variations to represent each of his friends and family. There is even a variation about a barking bulldog falling into a lake!

The Bridgewater Hall opens at 10.30am with FREE activities for all the family in the foyers before the concert starts at 12pm. Try your hand at breaking the Enigma code, a themed treasure hunt and ‘pin the moustache on the composer’! There will also be opportunities to learn about the instruments of the orchestra and meet some of our musicians! Refreshments and ice creams will be available to purchase too.
