Beethoveen’s Ninth has become the ground zero for our festival because it is not only the peak of the composer, but one of the greatest works of the genre. Hymn to joy, love, and mankind, Schiller’s “Ode to Joy” is in the final of the last symphony of the Viennese classic. As fate would have it, it was with that poem that Tchaikovsky started his artistic path. Though he was reluctant to publish his work, feeling embarrassed to “compete with Beethoven”.

Two oldest ensembles, based in the 1930th, would perform Beethoveen’s Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s Cantata. One of the most acclaimed conductors, Vadimir Fedoseev, would be on the podium. Fedossev worked with many internationally acclaimed orchestras, but he claims the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, which he has been leading since 1974, to be his life’s work.

Despite the fact that the Prague Philharmonic Choir collaborates with Praga National Theatre on a regular basis, and since 2010 it is the resident choir at the Bregenz Opera Festival, its repertoire consists mainly of cantatas and oratorios.

The ensemble tours the whole world, and recently it has been seen in St Petersburg. In the summer of 2019, the Choir performed together with Prague Philharmonic Choir at the motherland of Bedřich Smetana. In Litomysl, the native town of the Czech classic, fragments of Russian operas were performed.

The concert is supported by Czech Embassy in Russia, and Czech Center in Moscow.

Гимн радости, любви к человечеству, Ода Фридриха Шиллера «К радости» звучит в финале последней симфонии венского классика. Волею судьбы, именно с этих стихов начинает свой творческий путь Чайковский: его дипломной работой в консерватории стала кантата «К радости». «Печатать ее я не желаю, ибо это юношеское произведение без будущности, – писал позже Чайковский своему издателю Юргенсону. – К тому же ведь она на тему “К радости” Шиллера. Соперничать с Бетховеном неловко».

Симфонию Бетховена и Кантату Чайковского исполнят два старейших коллектива, основанные в тридцатые годы прошлого столетия. За дирижерский пульт Большого симфонического оркестра встанет один из самых именитых и заслуженных дирижеров современности – Владимир Федосеев. Всемирно признанные оркестры мира работали под его руководством, но главным делом своей жизни он считает родной БСО, которым руководит с 1974 года.

Несмотря на то, что Пражский филармонический хор регулярно сотрудничает с Национальным театром в Праге и с 2010 года имеет статус хора в резиденции на оперном фестивале в Брегенце, его репертуар в основном сосредоточен на произведениях кантатно-ораториального жанра. Коллектив гастролирует по всему миру, и не так давно, в 2018 году, его слышали в Санкт-Петербурге. Летом 2019 года, на родине Бедржиха Сметаны, состоялось совместного выступление Пражского филармонического хора с БСО. Тогда, на фестивале в родном городе чешского классика Литомышль, прозвучали отрывки из русских опер.
