What does freedom mean to us in today's world and what are we willing to buy out? The story of the desire for freedom and at the same time the brave Leonora, who sets out to fight evil in order to save her wrongfully imprisoned husband, is a celebration of love and at the same time a depiction of a sharp clash of idealism with reality. In the opera, Beethoven defends the suffering and oppressed with the mighty power of his music. From April 8, 2016 in the Opera and Ballet Hall in the new SND building.

Beethoven's Fidelio is a jewel of opera literature, a unique work by a genius composer. The first version of the opera premiered in 1805, its final form saw the light of day nine years later. The story of the brave Leonora, who sets out to fight evil in order to save her wrongfully imprisoned husband, is a celebration of love and at the same time a depiction of a sharp clash of idealism with reality. The work sounds like a fiery political manifesto. In it, Beethoven defends the suffering and oppressed with the mighty power of his music. They oppose manipulators and cynics for whom morality or respect for man is just an empty phrase and who expand their power to subdue others and abuse them for their own benefit. In this sense, the message of Ludwig van Beethoven's only opera does not cease to be relevant even after two hundred years.
