‎Captives, slaves plunged into despair, or in love and courageous, the soprano Florie Valiquette lends her voice here to many characters of the gallant turqueries of the eighteenth century, accompanied by Gaétan Jarry and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera.   Works by Grétry, Mozart, Gluck, Philidor, Monsigny, Gibert Here are the gallant Turqueries of L'Opera Comique orientalisant, where the lovers captured by the Corsairs were prisoners of the Harem for the Beautiful and galleys for its knight... The enslaved Christians populated the artistic imagination, which mixed the Arabian Nights and the slave traders, in love intrigues where the Sultan was deceived in his Serail! The young soprano Florie Valiquette embodies these captive heroines, marked by love, despair and courage, Gaétan Jarry giving the Royal Opera Orchestra the colours and frenzied rhythms of an Orient of fantasy, from Grétry to Mozart!

The Opéra-Comique flourished in Europe in the second half of the 18th century, becoming a major lyrical style and acclaimed by the public . Paris was its cradle from the beginning of the century with its Théâtre de la Foire, whose librettists and composers knew how to seize the vigor to impose works almost the opposite of the great Lyric Tragedies. On familiar stories where the gods and heroes are no longer the protagonists, replaced by peasants, nobles and bourgeois, the librettos create simple and moving intrigues, providing surprise effects that make the action bounce, which has become very theatrical. And orientalism allows all fantasies!

The arrival of brilliant composers like Monsigny, Philidor and then Grétry led to extraordinary successes, also due to the skilful librettos by Favart, Marmontel and Sedaine. In 1752, a French Theater was set up in Vienna for the performance of comic operas, which enjoyed exceptional success with the Viennese public: Gluck composed masterpieces for him, Mozart was inspired by them.

It is this brilliant, moving and light repertoire that the young Canadian soprano Florie Valiquette endeavors to defend today with the complicity of Gaétan Jarry: the Mozartian or Rossini style owes as much to this French music of the years 1750-1790 as the temptation was strong to make an anthology of it: here it is with its harvest of nuggets, intended for recording in our discographic collection!
