Paul Lincke was born on November 7, 1866 in Berlin. He was trained as a bassoonist in the Wittenberg town band and played in various entertainment and dance orchestras. In 1897 he composed his first one-act operetta Venus auf Erden and two years later he created a special Berlin operetta style with his wife Luna. The libretto was written by his friend Heinz Bolten-Baeckers. The moon revues that were fashionable at the time, which were performed in almost all major European cities under the influence of Jules Verne's novel From the Earth to the Moon (1865), and Jacques Offenbach's operetta The Journey to the Moon (1875) served as models for Lincke.

Paul Lincke's operetta Frau Luna asks if our life could be more exciting somewhere and if we could make our gray everyday life more colorful. What is hard to imagine in our real life, namely life on the moon, Fritz Steppke tries out with his travel companions. He dreams of adventures, interesting encounters, freedom and carelessness. But can all this be found on the moon? As soon as he arrives, Steppke has to find out that the moon dwellers are particularly concerned with human things. Luna's maid Stella misses her own life because she can't take her eyes off the ground. The moon master Theophil has money worries and still allows himself short trips to earth.
