Rebirth of an almost forgotten treasure: After only nine performances in 1895 and 1896, Frédégonde was forgotten for over a century. Even the creation was complicated. When Ernest Guiraud died in 1892, only the first three acts of  Frédégonde  were available, the rest composed by Guiraud's companion and friend Camille Saint-Saëns. His personal style, based on romantic harmonies and classical forms, makes  this opera a unique testimony to the musical diversity of the late 19th century, in the long shadow of Richard Wagner. – Theater Dortmund stages the Merovingian historical drama about love, power and revenge in an exciting combination of stage performance and silent film. The German premiere live and exclusively at takt1.
