DE MOLIÈRE AND LULLY

Michel Fau, a great man of the theater, returns once again to Molière to seize on this squeaky comedy that is George Dandin and his title role with the baroque genius, the poetry and the sense of excess that one knows him.

George Dandin, a wealthy peasant, married the daughter of a country gentleman and exchanged his fortune for a title. But the particle does not buy happiness and money does not buy love or respect. Far from there. Dandin only reaped contempt from his wife and his in-laws and found himself trapped. This tragic comedy of manners, this farce social criticism gives way to love during elegant pastoral interludes whose music is signed by the great Lully. Shepherdesses and shepherds then exchange gallant words, an ironic counterpoint to poor Dandin's amorous misfortune.
