With Giovanna D'Arco Il Teatro continues its desire to bring back less represented pages of the opera repertoire; the title, the result of the co-production between the Comunale and the Reggio Emilia Theaters, arrives in Modena after a long period of absence dating back to the 1979-1980 opera season.
Characteristic of this staging is the scenic setting through the innovative use of effects and video projections; in the words of director Paul-Emile Fourny "this work includes a great succession of scenes in different places: the village of Dom-Remy, the forest, the battlefields, the castle, the cathedral. In terms of built sets, this would represent a very heavy and complicated task. We therefore opted for the video idea, which allows us to move quickly from one place to another. "
The musical part of the show is entrusted to Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, an internationally renowned artist who boasts collaborations with Teatro alla Scala, Opera di Roma, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Rossini Opera Festival, Sferisterio di Macerata, Opera di Frankfurt, Opera di Bilbao, La Fenice of Venice, Deutsche Oper of Berlin.
The character of Giovanna is entrusted to Vittoria Yeo, a soprano pupil of Raina Kabaivanska who has already played the role at the Verdi Festival in Parma and who performed under the direction of Riccardo Muti at the Salzburg Festival and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In the role of Carlo VII Amadi Lagha already applauded at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, Arena di Verona, Teatro Carlo Felice and Savonlinna Festival. Giacomo will be played by Devid Cecconi, baritone protagonist in Modena in the recent production of Rigoletto and active in theaters such as Opera di Roma, Bayerische Staatsoper, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Massimo in Palermo and Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
