In this spectacular Baroque opera by director/conductor George Petrou, the protagonist Julius Caesar (Giulio Cesare) is a 1920s adventurer – complete with fedora hat. He is - like so many archaeologists at the time - looking for a tomb of a pharaoh and suddenly encounters the apparition of Cleopatra. Is she a ghost, a mummy?

George Petrou says about his concept: “It's an adventure!”. Baroque operas have always been spectacular pieces and this version takes it even further. Sets and costumes show a mix of ancient Egypt and the Roaring Twenties .  

Petrou directs and conducts this production: an unusual combination we deliberately chose with baroque expert George Petrou.
