In the last part of the tetralogy the horizon widens again: Siegfried expands on "New Deeds" and meets people who are dominated by greed for power and wealth and who do not shy away from any means to achieve their goal. Without the help of Brünnhilde who stayed behind, the hero becomes a victim of the intrigues at Gibichungenhof. But his case also ushered in the downfall of this old world, which is still suffering from the curse with which Alberich had placed the all-powerful ring in the RHEINGOLD. Only the sacrifice of Brünnhilde, who has come to know, opens up a chance: by giving the stolen gold back to the Rhine and extinguishing her own existence through self-immolation, she paves the way for a new beginning. From the ashes of Brünnhilde, Wagner musically lets the love motif blossom, which so far has only been in the third act of WALKÜRE. At the end of GÖTTERDÄDMERUNG there is not only doom, but also hope. The game can start again - will it be different next time?


As part of their already multiple successful cooperation, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Naxos will record the two cyclical performances of the RING DES NIBELUNGEN in November 2021 audiovisually as producers. In addition to the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Naxos, other production partners are Norwegian television NRK, the online platform MarqueeTV and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg, which will also broadcast the second cycle live on the radio. After post-production of the recording, the RING DES NIBELUNGEN will be available in Germany in the ARD media library and internationally on MarqueeTV in spring 2022, as well as being broadcast on Norwegian television. In autumn 2022, Naxos will publish the RING cycle in a DVD or Blu-ray box.
