After the death of his girlfriend, the robot designer Jonah creates the perfect woman in the form of the android Alma. However, when the latter developed its own consciousness, it claimed its right to a self-determined existence. A struggle for life and death breaks out between man and machine - and also over the question of what that actually means: being human.

With the German premiere of humanoidthe Hanover State Opera is showing a highly topical musical thriller by Leonard Evers, one of the most successful young opera composers of our time. His piece moves flexibly between the genres - and yet retains its very own tonal language. Jonah's friend Piet breaks out enthusiastically from his programming skills into a kind of musical song, while Jonah believes he is being followed in a musically gloomy nightmare by his dead girlfriend. The changes between seemingly harmless chatter and dangerously lurking, rhythmically pulsating surfaces that swell threateningly and can grow into real sound waves are quick. The learning process of the androids is uncontrollable. The game with artificial intelligence can turn into bitter seriousness at any time.
We humans cannot escape our own consciousness any more than the Android can escape its program. We can only trust our perception of the world and make decisions on that basis. So how can we be sure that we are "real" people ourselves - and not just "humanoid"?
