Giulietta and Romeo fell fatefully in love - but their powerful families are enemies. Out of desperation over the impossibility of her love, Giulietta takes a desperate remedy: She takes a potion that makes her seem dead in order to escape an impending forced marriage. Romeo knows nothing of all of this ... Vincenzo Bellini's version of the famous story of Romeo and Juliet wins a painful and touching longing from sad love. The music explores the souls of the characters in "melodie lunghe, lunghe, lunghe", as Verdi wrote admiringly of his colleague.
