«Божественний маестро» – так називав великого італійського композитора Генріх Гейне, який вбачав в Джоаккіно Россіні «сонце Італії, яке розсипає свої дзвінкі промені на увесь світ». Оноре де Бальзак, прослухавши «Мойсея» Россіні, сказав: «Ця музика піднімає схилені голови і вселяє надію у найлінивіші серця». Приїхавши у вересня 1824 року до Відня, німецький філософ Георг Гегель вирішив відвідати один із спектаклів Італійського театру. Прослухавши «Отелло» Россіні, він написав дружині: «Поки у мене вистачить грошей, щоб ходити в італійську оперу і оплатити зворотній проїзд, я залишаюся у Відні». За місяць перебування в столиці Австрії, філософ по разу відвідав усі спектаклі театру і дванадцять разів – оперу «Отелло». Петро Ілліч Чайковський, вперше прослухавши «Севільського цирульника», записав у щоденнику: «Севільський цирульник» назавжди залишиться незрівнянним зразком… Тих невдаваних, самовідданих, нестримно захоплюючих веселощів, якими бризкає кожна сторінка «Цирульника», того блиску і витонченості мелодії й ритму, якими сповнена ця опера, – не можна знайти ні в кого». Стендаль, який був свідком шаленого успіху італійського композитора, констатував: «Слава Россіні може бути обмежена тільки кордонами всесвіту». Доля була прихильною до Россіні в усьому: у творчості, в житті, в коханні і в славі. Джоаккіно Россіні народився 29 лютого 1729 року в маленькому італійському містечку Пезаро. Батьки були музикантами і гастролювали, тому хлопчик ріс під доглядом бабусі. Особливої наполегливості у вивченні наук юний Россіні не проявляв, оскільки мріяв про інше – стати найзнаменитішим співаком Італії. У юного Россіні був дуже гарний голос – надзвичайно чисте сопрано. Його називали «хлопчиком з незвичайним голосом». Для підтримки сім’ї дванадцятирічний Джоаккіно почав заробляти як півчий у церквах Болоньї, а Джузеппе Россіні брав сина з собою на гастролі. Оркестрантів вражала легкість, з якою Джоаккіно читав ноти, співав і акомпанував прямо з аркуша. У 1806 році Россіні вступив до Болонського музичного ліцею, в якому навчався відразу у трьох класах – віолончелі, контрапункту і роялю. Пізніше маестро згадував: «Я надто явно відчував, що моя занадто багата природа не створена для того, щоб підкорюватися постійній, наполегливій праці, і через це з часом люб’язний падре Маттеї піддав мене анафемі, назвавши «безчестям своєї школи». Спільна творчість настільки зблизила їх, що в решті решт вони одружились. Протягом 1816 – 1823 років одна за одною з’являються нові опери Россіні. Кращі з них ось уже майже два століття не сходять зі сцен оперних театрів світу – «Отелло», «Арміда», «Попелюшка», «Сорока-злодійка», «Севільський цирульник», «Аделаїда Бургундська», «Ерміона», «Магомет II», «Семираміда». Незабаром Россіні отримав від міністра французького королівського двору пропозицію обійняти посаду директора «Театр Італьєн» в Парижі. Кар’єра композитора в столиці Франції була карколомною. Через два роки він отримав звання генерального інспектора співів та композитора його величності; у 1827 році йому надали почесну посаду в королівському почті; потім він став членом Ради з управління королівськими музичними школами і членом комітету оперного театру. Останній оперний твір, написаний Россіні – опера «Вільгельм Телль», прем’єра якої відбулась 3 серпня 1829 року. Після цього тридцятисемирічний композитор практично відійшов від музики. Його не раз вмовляли знову взятися за написання опер, але він завжди відповідав відмовою. Чому? Ось уже понад 150 років це питання турбує дослідників. Сучасники називали це загадкою століття, оточуючи цю обставину всілякими домислами. Незабаром після прем’єри «Вільгельма Телля» Россіні облаштувався в Болоньї, а 1855 року повернувся в Париж, і там, оточений загальною шаною, провів останні тринадцять років життя. На віллі Пассі у Россіні збиралися артисти, літератори, аристократи, які любили музику. Так було завжди і скрізь – двері будинку композитора були відкриті для всіх. Тут не можна не сказати про ще один талант Россіні – кулінара й гурмана. Композитор вважав високу кулінарію й прекрасну музику «двома деревами одного кореня». Сам маестро увічнив свою пристрасть у фортепіанних п’єсах «Чотири закуски» («Редиска», «Анчоуси», «Корнішони», «Олія») та «Чотири десерти» («Інжир», «Мигдаль», «Горішки», «Виноград»). Протягом майже сорока років, які минули після створення «Вільгельма Телля», Россіні написав велику кількість фортепіанних та вокальних мініатюр, переважна частина яких об’єднана під назвою «Гріхи моєї старості». Композитор створив і два великі багаточастинні вокально-симфонічні твори –“Stabat mater” (1842) та “Маленьку урочисту месу” (1863-1864). Широко відомий також вокальний цикл Россіні “Музичні вечори”. Джоаккіно Россіні не стало 13 листопада 1868 року. У 1887 році на прохання уряду Італії прах Россіні перевезли на батьківщину й урочисто поховали у Флоренції поряд з могилами Мікеланджело та Галілея – великих синів Італії.

"Divine maestro" - this is what Heinrich Heine called the great Italian composer, who saw in Gioacchino Rossini "the sun of Italy, which scatters its sonorous rays on the whole world." Honore de Balzac, after listening to "Moses" by Rossini, said: "This music raises bowed heads and inspires hope in the laziest hearts." Having arrived in Vienna in September 1824, the German philosopher Georg Hegel decided to visit one of the performances of the Italian Theater. After listening to "Otello" by Rossini, he wrote to his wife: "As long as I have enough money to go to the Italian opera and pay for the return trip, I will stay in Vienna." During his one-month stay in the capital of Austria, the philosopher visited all theater performances once and the opera "Othello" twelve times. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, after listening to "The Barber of Seville" for the first time, wrote in his diary: "The Barber of Seville" will forever remain an incomparable example... Those unpretending, selfless, irrepressibly exciting fun that sprinkles every page of "The Barber", that brilliance and sophistication of melody and rhythm, which this opera is full of, cannot be found in anyone else." Stendhal, who witnessed the wild success of the Italian composer, stated: "Rossini's glory can be limited only by the borders of the universe." Fate was favorable to Rossini in everything: in creativity, in life, in love and in fame. Gioacchino Rossini was born on February 29, 1729 in the small Italian town of Pesaro. His parents were musicians and toured, so the boy grew up under the care of his grandmother. The young Rossini did not show particular perseverance in the study of sciences, as he dreamed of something else - to become the most famous singer in Italy. The young Rossini had a very beautiful voice - an extremely pure soprano. He was called "a boy with an unusual voice." In order to support the family, twelve-year-old Gioacchino began to earn money as an usher in the churches of Bologna, and Giuseppe Rossini took his son with him on tour. The orchestra members were impressed by the ease with which Gioacchino read notes, sang and accompanied directly from the sheet. In 1806, Rossini entered the Bologna Music Lyceum, where he studied in three classes at once - cello, counterpoint and piano. Later, the maestro recalled: "I felt too clearly that my too rich nature was not created to submit to constant, hard work, and because of this, in time, the kind Padre Mattei subjected me to anathema, calling me a "dishonor of his school." After graduating from the lyceum, the eighteen-year-old Rossini devoted himself entirely to creating music. Rumors about the talented young composer reached the Milan theater "La Scala" and signed a contract with him to create an opera. In 1812, Rossini's first opera, The Touchstone, was staged at La Scala. A young handsome man, a cheerful and witty interlocutor, moreover, a famous composer (despite his twenty years), Gioacchino immediately won the hearts of the public, impresarios, actors and beautiful ladies. "This opera created an era of joy and delight in the theater; crowds of people arrived in Milan from Parma, Pianchenzi, Bergamo and Brescia... Rossini became the first man of his region; everyone wanted to see him no matter what,” Stendhal wrote in his biographical book about Rossini. The victory at La Scala promoted Rossini to the ranks of the first opera composers. During the next two years, the operas "Cyrus in Babylon", "Tancred" and "The Italian Woman in Algiers" were written. staged in many theaters in Italy. Rossini became a real idol of Italians. In 1815, Rossini came to Naples. At that time, he had already written fourteen operas, in the future he was to create twenty-five more. He had just turned twenty-three years old. In Naples, among the singers of the Barbaya troupe, the leading place was occupied by the singer Isabella Colbran - a Spanish beauty with an extraordinary voice. The young composer was so captivated by the singer's talent and beauty that Rossini wrote all subsequent operas created for Neapolitan theaters in anticipation of her performance. Joint creativity brought them so close that eventually they got married. During the years 1816 - 1823, new Rossini operas appear one after another. The best of them have not left the stages of the world's opera houses for almost two centuries - "Othello", "Armida", "Cinderella", "The Thieving Magpie", "Barber of Seville", "Adelaide of Burgundy", "Ermione", "Mohammed II", "Semiramis". Soon, Rossini received an offer from the minister of the French royal court to take up the position of director of the "Theater Italien" in Paris. The composer's career in the capital of France was groundbreaking. Two years later he received the title of general inspector of chants and composer to his majesty; in 1827 he was given an honorary post in the royal mail; then he became a member of the Board of Management of the Royal Schools of Music and a member of the Opera House Committee. The last opera written by Rossini is the opera "Wilhelm Tell", which premiered on August 3, 1829. After that, the thirty-seven-year-old composer practically retired from music. He was repeatedly persuaded to take up writing operas again, but he always refused. Why? For more than 150 years, this question has been troubling researchers. Contemporaries called it the mystery of the century, surrounding this circumstance with all sorts of conjectures. Soon after the premiere of "Wilhelm Tell", Rossini settled in Bologna, and in 1855 he returned to Paris, and there, surrounded by universal respect, he spent the last thirteen years of his life. Artists, writers, aristocrats who loved music gathered at Villa Passi in Rossini. It was like this always and everywhere - the doors of the composer's house were open to everyone. Here one cannot fail to mention another talent of Rossini - a cook and gourmet. The composer considered high cuisine and beautiful music to be "two trees of the same root." The maestro himself immortalized his passion in the piano pieces "Four Appetizers" ("Radishes", "Anchovies", "Gherkins", "Oil") and "Four Desserts" ("Figs", "Almonds", "Nuts", " Grape"). During the almost forty years that passed after the creation of "Wilhelm Tell", Rossini wrote a large number of piano and vocal miniatures, most of which are combined under the name "Sins of my old age". The composer also created two large multipart vocal-symphonic works - "Stabat mater" (1842) and "Little Solemn Mass" (1863-1864). Rossini's vocal cycle "Musical Evenings" is also widely known.
