La Cetra and Andrea Marcon indulge their love for Vivaldi this season with the concert opera "Giustino" from 1724. The location of the premiere is Rome, which is unusual for a Vivaldi opera, where at that time no women were allowed to appear on the stage and castrati all female figures sang. Time and action are relatively special for an opera seria: Constantinople at the turn of the 4th to the 5th century after the turn of the era. But don't worry, here too there is no lack of intricate action, shipwreck and battle, political intrigue and love affair, distress and steadfastness, thirst for revenge and forgiveness...

The varied arias offer a top-class ensemble of soloists the most beautiful opportunities to enchant us with vocal art. One of the "hit hits" by "Giustino" is the aria "Vedrò col mio diletto", which alone was clicked 8.5 million times in Jakub Józef Orlinski's interpretation on YouTube. The alto aria "Ho nel petto un cor sì forte" formed part of Cecilia Bartoli's "Vivaldi Album" in 1999, with which the hitherto little-known opera composer Vivaldi suddenly became known to a worldwide audience. “Giustino” is now one of the most popular baroque operas, and countless outstanding singers are enthusiastic about it. Ihrer Liebe zu Vivaldi frönen La Cetra und Andrea Marcon in dieser Saison mit der konzertanten Oper «Giustino» von 1724. Ungewöhnlich für eine Vivaldi-Oper ist der Ort der Uraufführung Rom, wo zu jener Zeit keine Frauen auf der Bühne auftreten durften und Kastraten sämtliche weiblichen Figuren sangen. Relativ speziell für eine Opera seria sind Zeit und Handlung: Konstantinopel an der Wende vom 4. zum 5. Jahrhundert nach der Zeitenwende. Aber keine Angst, auch hier fehlt es nicht an verwickelter Handlung, Schiffbruch und Schlacht, politischer Intrige und Liebeszwist, Bedrängnis und Standhaftigkeit, Rachedurst und Vergebung …

Die abwechslungsreichen Arien bieten einem hochkarätigen Solistenensemble schönste Möglichkeiten, uns mit vokaler Kunst zu verzaubern. Zu den «Schlagern» von «Giustino» gehört einerseits die Arie «Vedrò col mio diletto», die allein in Jakub Józef Orlinskis Interpretation auf Youtube 8,5 Millionen Mal angeklickt wurde. Die Alt- Arie «Ho nel petto un cor sì forte» bildete 1999 Teil von Cecilia Bartolis «Vivaldi- Album», mit dem der bislang kaum bekannte Opernkomponist Vivaldi auf einem Schlag ins Bewusstsein eines weltweiten Publikums rückte. Mittlerweile gehört «Giustino» zu den gern gespielten Barockopern, und zahllose hervorragende Sängerinnen und Sänger nehmen sich seiner begeistert an. La Cetra reist im Anschluss an das Basler Konzert weiter ins Concertgebouw Amsterdam, wohin unsere Produktionen im Rahmen der renommierten «NTR Zaterdagmatinee» seit Jahren immer wieder eingeladen werden.
