It is all the more interesting to learn about the initial steps he has taken in the area in question, to find out what the earliest attempts were. This evening we have the opportunity to do so: the first oratorio of the creator of Creation, who will perform at the Müpa New Year's concerts from year to year, will be considered a rarity in the concert hall.

Haydn did not compose an oratorio until 1775. At that time, at the age of forty-three, he wrote his Italian-language oratorio Il ritorno di Tobia (The Return of Tobias) to the libretto by Giovanni Gastone Boccherini, his brother Luigi Boccherini. The work - his most extensive and demanding work to date - has been performed three times in his life: first in the year of its creation, at the Tonkünstler-Societät concert in Vienna, with considerable performance and great success, and second in 1784, again at the Society of .
