At the heart of one of the best musical works in the musical genre is the story of R.L. Stevenson "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" is a romantic and philosophical reflection on the struggle between good and evil.

According to the plot, the talented doctor Henry Jekyll decides to conduct an experiment on himself and prove that it is possible to separate the good and bad components of human nature artificially. The experiment leads to the fact that the consciousness of the hero splits, and Mr. Hyde, a ruthless killer who commits atrocities one after another, settles in one bodily shell next to a brilliant doctor.

The background for the development of the main storyline is the picture of modern society, in which lies, violence and hypocrisy are the norm. And in this context, the crimes of Mr. Hyde (whose victims, in the first place, are representatives of high society, mired in vices) turn out to be a kind of “sanitary measure”. However, we have to admit that the experience of Henry Jekyll fails: dreaming of changing the world, the hero is convinced that evil cannot be defeated and dies himself.

The musical "Jekyll and Hyde" was written in 1989. A year later, in Houston, at the Alley Theatre, Houston, its world premiere took place. By this time, the main compositions of the musical, recorded in a concert version, were already thundering everywhere, enjoying unprecedented success with the public.

"Jekyll & Hyde" on the stage of the Musical Comedy Theater is the second production of the musical in Russia.

В основе одного из лучших музыкальных произведений в жанре мюзикла – повесть Р.Л. Стивенсона «Странная история доктора Джекилла и мистера Хайда» – романтико-философское размышление на тему борьбы добра со злом.

По сюжету талантливый доктор Генри Джекилл решает провести опыт на себе самом и доказать, что разделить дурные и хорошие составляющие натуры человека возможно искусственным путем. Эксперимент приводит к тому, что сознание героя раздваивается, и в одной телесной оболочке рядом с блестящим врачом поселяется мистер Хайд – безжалостный убийца, совершающий злодеяния одно за другим.

Фоном для развития основной сюжетной линии становится картина современного общества, в котором ложь, насилие и лицемерие – норма жизни. И в этом контексте преступления мистера Хайда (жертвы которого, в первую очередь, – представители высшего общества, погрязшие в пороках) оказываются своего рода «санитарным мероприятием». Однако приходится признать, что опыт Генри Джекилла проваливается: мечтая изменить мир, герой убеждается, что зло невозможно победить и гибнет сам.

Мюзикл «Джекилл и Хайд» был написан в 1989 году. Через год в Хьюстоне, в театре Элли (Alley Theatre, Houston) состоялась его мировая премьера. К этому времени записанные в концертном варианте основные композиции мюзикла уже гремели повсюду, пользуясь небывалым успехом у публики.
